Antonio Cromartie

NFL Draft News

Antonio Cromartie CB 6'2 208 Florida St.
By: Robert Davis

Cromartie only played two seasons on the field for Florida St, but he made his presence felt in that short time. After a freshman season in which he played as a reserve, Cromartie was in the three man rotation as a sophomore, earning one start. Despite being classified as the nickel corner, Cromartie picked off four passes and was named All ACC 1st team. His missed this past season after tearing his ACL.

From a physical standpoint, Cromartie is the ideal cornerback. He has excellent size, but couples that with excellent agility, quickness, and speed. He displays the ability to easily turn and cover receivers and keep up stride for stride with them down the field. He also shows the willingness to support the run and put his size to good use. With his height and jumping ability, he is tough to beat in one on one situations. In his only season with consistent playing time, Cromartie was one of the biggest playmakers at the corner position in the country.

The biggest issue with Cromartie is that he only played two seasons of college ball, neither of them as a full time starter. He will need a lot of work developing into an NFL corner. At this point in time, he is all athlete, and will need coaching to maximize his athletic gifts. The knee injury that caused him to miss his junior season will be checked out, but it appears to be fine as he has put on a show in post season workouts.

Had Cromartie played this season, he was a potential Top 10 selection. As it stands now, he could still go in the first round based on his potential. He possesses every physical gift you want in a corner, and then some. He does bring a lot of risk though, because he needs a lot of work because he does not have much experience. Do not be surprised to see him land in the Top 20, though he could last a little longer than that.
