NFL Draft News

Bruce Gradkowski QB 6'2 222 Toledo
By: Robert Davis

Ever since he stepped on the field at Toledo, Bruce Gradkowski has been one of the most productive quarterbacks in the college game. His first season on the field was as a sophomore in 2003. He finished the year with 3,210 yards through the air, completed 71% of his throws, and had an amazing 29/7 touchdown to interception ratio. On the ground, he ran for over 500 yards. As a junior, he had another excellent season. For the year he completed just over 70% of his passes for 3,518 yards, and 27 touchdowns to 8 picks. He added nine touchdowns on the ground as well. As a senior, his numbers fell a bit, but were still outstanding. For the year, Gradkowski threw for 2,469 yards, while completing 62.3% of his passes for 29 touchdowns to just 12 picks.

Gradkowski has the skill to play at the next level. He has a cannon for an arm, and can thread the needle anywhere on the field. His efficiency over the past three years has been amazing. Along with his passing ability, Gradkowski is an excellent athlete and can make things happen with his fee.t Once he gets into the open field and you see him move, you can't believe a quarterback can move that fast.

The only question physically with Gradkowski is his height. He is not as tall as his listed height, which makes him shorter than ideal for the QB position. His toughness also works against him at times. He plays reckless on the field, and as a quarterback, he needs to realize he's too valuable to take extra hits. He's been hindered with a hand, shoulder, and rib injuries, to go with concussions.

The MAC has been producing a lot of talented signal callers of late, and Gradkowski may add his name to the list. He has all the talent to play on Sundays. He only grades out as a second day draft pick, but his talent makes him a player that could develop over time. He is definitely a name to keep an eye on, because he has the talent to be a player that far outplays his draft position.
