Marvin Philip

NFL Draft News

Marvin Philip C 6'2 305 California
By: Robert Davis

Marvin Philip took over as a starter at center during his freshman season, but then left on a two year mormon mission. Once he returned in 2003, it took some time to get back to his previous level, but got his starting job back near the end of the season. Once 2004 came around, Philip was at his best. He earned all Pac 10 first team honors, and was named to various All American lists.

Philip quickly adjusts after the snap and gets into position immediately. His burst combined with his low center of gravity allow him to get excellent leverage on defensive tackles. He also has the quickness and agility to block on the move. No matter what play is called, Philip is looking to lay a body on somebody. His toughness is second to none. He is a very solid all around center.

Even though he sets up quickly, Philip can still be pushed around by bigger tackles. He's going to have to get stronger to match up on an individual basis in the NFL. He also does not have any standout physical attribute. He is not the biggest, strongest, or most athletic on the field.

Marvin Philip has the makings of a solid center prospect. He can do anything asked on the football field, and is always looking for contact. He does not possess the physical ability to dominate, but he could be a valuable member of an NFL offensive line.
