Matt Lentz

NFL Draft News

Matt Lentz OL 6’6 311 Michigan
By: Robert Davis

Matt Lentz has continued the fine tradition of Wolverine lineman. He became the starting right guard as a sophomore, and has been a standout every since. He was named to the All-Big 10 1st team for his success as a junior.

The typical Michigan lineman, Lentz’s biggest asset is his attitude. He’s mean, he’s tough, and he’s strong. You will not outwork on him on the field. He displays the ability to lock on to the defender in the running game and drive him out of the play. Lentz is also strong enough and keeps good balance to keep his man from penetrating in the passing game.

Lentz just lacks the standout athleticism skills to be a big time prospect. He can be beat off the snap by quicker interior lineman, and does not adjust to counter moves very well.

Michigan lineman are well schooled and have the toughness to succeed in the NFL despite not having the ideal physical skills. Lentz is no different. He’s not such a stiff that he can’t play in the league, so with his intelligence and toughness, he will find a home in the league.
