Roger "Rocky" McIntosh

NFL Draft News

Roger "Rocky" McIntosh LB 6'2 237 Miami
By: Robert Davis

Rocky McIntosh made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2002, and looked to be the next great 'Cane linebacker. As a freshman he posted 43 tackles, with eight of them coming for loss. As a sophomore though he was slowed by a knee injury and lost his job. Rocky came back with a vengeance as a junior. He posted career highs of 111 tackles and 13 for loss, to go with four sacks. McIntosh had another standout season as a senior, finishing with 89 tackles, 12 for loss, and 5.5 sacks.

McIntosh has all the physical tools to standout at linebacker in the NFL. He has solid size, but combines that with excellent athleticism and very good speed. He shows the ability to drop into coverage and cover backs and tight ends down the field. Rocky also shows the willingness to come up and stick his nose into traffic and bring down the ball carrier. He also shows some pass rush potential off the edge with his speed and athleticism.

From a physical standpoint, McIntosh just needs to bulk up a bit. He is 237 but carries it well and could stand to gain a bit more weight. Rocky can be taken out of plays because he does not get off blocks well, but that could be a result of his lack of weight. Even though he has quite a bit of experience, McIntosh is still raw and will need some coaching to harness all his athletic talent.

As an outside linebacker, Rocky McIntosh has shown the ability to be a difference maker in every aspect. He just needs to show more consistency in his game, and he could be a terrific NFL linebacker. McIntosh carries a Day One grade and could really develop down the line.
