New Free Agency Winners and Losers

Marcus Griffin S Texas 6’ 202

By: Robert Davis

During his first two years in the program, Griffin only had 32 tackles, playing in his brothers shadow. As a junior, he came into his own, finishing with 86 tackles and a pick. As a senior, he made a name for himself, earning 1st team Big 12 honors after finishing with 97 tackles and three interceptions.

Griffin is a tough and instinctive safety. He quickly diagnoses the action and gets to the action very quick. He is aggressive moving forward to stuff the run, but also shows the ability in coverage to put himself in position to make a play on the football. Griffin could be a special team ace at the next level.

There is not any physical trait that Griffin possess that carries over to the NFL. He has average size, speed, and athleticism for a safety prospect. He has the instincts to process things quicker, but he lacks the physical skills to match up.

Griffin is nowhere near the prospect his brother was, even though he had two fine seasons to close out his college career. He is a player that will be able to find a role in the league because he could spend time at both safety spots, along with helping out on special teams.
