Kyle Moore DE 6'5 272 USC 4.90

By: Robert Davis

Moore was a big recruit out of the state of Georgia, but did little to make an impact on the field during his first two seasons in the program. He backed up Frostee Rucker and Lawrence Jackson, totaling just 11 tackles in those two seasons. As a junior though, he moved into the starting lineup and put together a solid season, finishing with 35 tackles, 3.5 for loss, two sacks, and two interceptions. Moore had a very good senior season, topping his playmaking numbers with 9.5 tackles for loss and a team leading five sacks, to go along with 28 tackles.

Strengths

Kyle Moore is a big defensive end, with quite a bit of room to grow. On the strong side, he holds his ground well at the point of attack, showing the ability to be a consistent force against the run. He is a solid athlete that moves well and has the ability to beat the tackle and get into the backfield to disrupt the action. Moore has an excellent football IQ, and shows a rare ability to come off the line and play in space for a defensive lineman. He has been asked to drop into zone coverage and has come up with two interceptions when dropping back. Moore should be able to play defensive end in a 4-3 or 3-4 alignment.

Weaknesses

Moore is not the most explosive player off the edge. He is a good athlete with the quickness to beat the tackle, but he doesn’t always close on the play. He is more of an all around end than a pure pass rusher, and he could fit in a 3-4 alignment because of it. He has a lot of weight to gain in that set however.

Future

Kyle Moore may not be the pass rusher or get as much attention as some of the ends at USC in recent memory, but he has real NFL potential. Right how he may be a bit of a tweener between a 4-3 and 3-4 end, but he has the talent to play in both systems. He displayed better pass rush skills as a senior, and may have some more untapped potential. He would be one of the better mid round picks at DE available in this draft because of his all around skills. He impressed at the Senior Bowl with his quickness off the snap and ability to hold his ground at the point of attack. He is a player that has a lean frame and really looks like he could continue to bulk up and handle playing end in a 3-4 in the near future.
