you watch this and it's obvious why GB selected him. looks really good hitting cutback lanes on the highlights at least. |

Ryan Grant had ELITE top end speed though. It's what made him truly special.

Really good read on Williams here by former Packers beat writer Tyler Dunne. Seems like an easy dude to root for

Great read. His life experiences have been at such extremes: poverty culture, abandonment, the ascetism and culture shock of BYU, overcoming a disproportionate and ruthless punishment, withdrawal into Spartan-level physical training. I had no idea what to think of the kid before and now I regret tweaking him in an earlier post.
I hope he finds a home in strange old 'sconny.

Yeah totally reminded me of someone and I couldn't put my finger on it. I kept thinking Starks but I didn't really feel good about that. Ryan Grant is a great comparison and if we get Ryan Grant with that pick I think we've done very very well. |

I still remember how much distance he had between him and the last defender in that long TD run against Dallas after he broke through the line. |

Same style as Grant. I think this guy has slightly better feet with slightly less top end speed. But similar no nonsense style with good quick decision making. Starks ran like an idiot. Indecisive. This guy just makes a decision like grant did and hits it with aggression. |

My bad, went back and watched some old Greene film, had better agilty , less power. Though the NFL version of Greene IMO looked a lot more like what I expect from Williams

I watched Starks highlight vid from when he was at Buffalo. He ran like Adrian Peterson.  He was so freaking fast.
Never seen do anything like that for us. If I recall correctly he added on bulk to become a more physical back in the NFL but that was a big mistake and he was completely ineffective as it slowed him down and lost some mobility. Only 2 TD in his first three season. He kept getting injured too.
Then he lost weight and focused on becoming more elusive to avoid injuries and as a result he was much more effective and even got better as a receiver.
I hope Williams doesn't make the same mistake he did and just try to stay at his current weight and focus on playing his own game.

I really like this pick. A big knock on him is his breakaway speed. Sure, he might not run away from defenders in the NFL but he had good burst through the line and looks really quick which will be nice to have. But it seems like he has very good vision which is huge. That's what hurt Alex Green IMO..
My biggest knock on Williams would personally be durability concerns. The way he runs upright and how violent he runs could very well lead to injury.

You can't just look at numbers. Green was a slasher, one cut and go guy but he was soft. He has what we thought was vision but it turns out when no college defenses gameplan around you and leave you with consistent holes it wasn't vision just executing a play.
Williams is a violent runner. He finishes runs and seeks contact. If you merge Starks' longer, lanky body with Lacy's mindset carrying the football I think you'd have Williams.

As prospects I can see it, lets hope the career for Williams turns out a little better.  I think having your opponent game plan for Aaron Rodgers is a good start.
