That’s literally the benefit of drafting OT that would also be good inside. If they fail at OT, chances are they won’t fail at IOL somewhere. You get that luxury at literally no other position group. If IOL fails, they just fail. If WR fails, they just fail. If QB fails, they just fail. OT is the one position group in the NFL you get two chances on. At 25th overall, if you can get a ten year starter at IOL it’s a massive success. I don’t know how anyone can argue against the logic here.

I think Spillane get a new 2-3 year deal. He’s a defensive leader and shouldn’t take up too much space. That would take him to age 30/31. That’s when we should think about his replacement. I thought Deablo looked good last year. I would give him a new deal too at the end of 24 if he has a good year. I guess if we let him walk, we could be in the market. I realize we run a lot of 5 DBs sets: Masterson, Eichenberg, Burney are decent depth pieces

Is Green Bay getting to the point now where they don't hand out as many second contracts too? I mean Runyan got paid okay money, but we still think we can upgrade. Could that be the same with Myers? In years past he probably is a second contract guy, but it seems like Gute is really flirting with get 4 or 5 years out of a player and if they aren't next world have the next guy ready to go. It will be interesting to watch moving forward.

I really like the on field talent we have assembled in the offensive trenches. A big question mark that won't be fully answered until a few weeks into the season is "How well have we replaced the loss of OL coaching legend, Bill Callahan?" Something was amiss last season that probably is better left behind closed doors at 76 Lou Groza Blvd. Gone from last year's staff are OC Alex Van Pelt, OL coach Bill Callahan, and RB coach Stump Mitchell, and TE coach TC McCartney. That is A LOT of turnover from one offensive staff in one off season. My guess is that HC Kevin Stefanski felt the offense underperformed in 2023, so those changes were made. Those coaches were replaced with OC Ken Dorsey, OL Coach Andy Dickerson, RB Coach Duce Staley, and TE Coach Tommy Rees. How well will all those new components mesh with HC Kevin Stefanski's vision? TBD. Since the days of Pop Warner football, the talent in the trenches sets the tone for the success of the rest of the offense. Here we go. Center: Depth Chart: Ethan Pocic (starter), Brian Allen (veteran backup), Luke Wypler (still developing 2nd year player). This is a rock solid unit. Nick Harris was the presumed starter in 2022 after the retirement of JC Tretter. Then injuries intervened with Harris and former second round pick Ethan Pocic was signed. He grabbed the opportunity to start and hasn't relinquished it yet. Wypler filled in nicely for Pocic when Ethan was hurt last year. Harris transitioned from the OL role to a FB/H Back role that suited him better and is now with the Seahawks. Usually, when a team has an established starter and a promising young player as a backup - they are set. The Browns set that notion aside last week and signed C Brian Allen. When you get the opportunity to upgrade your roster by signing a former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl starter - you do it. 2022 was an injury filled year. He lost his starting position in 2023 and was released. He will be a wonderful resource. Guards: Depth Chart: Joel Bitonio (starter LG), Wyatt Teller (starter RG), Michael Dunn (veteran backup), Germain Ifedi (veteran backup), Zak Zinter (rookie 2024 - 2nd rd pick) Dawson Deaton (basically a rookie - 2nd yr - all of 2023 IR), Wypler, and highly thought of UDFA Javion Cohen. I don't think there is a more accomplished set of guards in the NFL than Bitonio and Teller. Bitonio is an All Pro and is still playing at a high level. He has earned the right to go out on his own terms. He has played through injuries. But the hard question that needs answered is "Will 2024 be the year that the lingering injuries catch up with Joel?" The sobering reality is Joel is 32 years old and this will be his 12th season already. He is the incumbent starter, but keep in mind he won't play forever. Teller grabbed the starting RG spot once he got here and has held on to it like he holds onto a wild alligator across his shoulders. (No one ever said he was "all there" - but man he is one hell of a guard. Another sobering reality is Teller is making $11.6M, and this team - with the current contracts in place - is already $32M over the 2025 salary cap. That makes Teller a cap casualty candidate. The chilling reality is what we have known to be rock solid these last few years may need to be replaced in its entirety in 2025. Every time Michael Dunn has been asked to step into the lineup to cover an injury, I thought he has performed admirably. So much so that I would feel very comfortable with him as a "don't panic injury" replacement, and maybe more. Zak Zinter was a home run pick, given the situation we are in. Zak's history has shown him to be successful at every level of football he has played. There is no reason to think that won't continue on the North Coast. I envision him as Teller's long term replacement - whenever that happens. The next tier of guys has talent too.but at that point it is a numbers game - so the PS is probably their more likely destination. Tackles: Depth Chart: Jed Wills (starting LT), Jack Conklin/Dawand Jones (starting RTs), James Hudson (veteran back up), Hakeem Adeniji (veteran FA backup swing T) Jason Sullen (UDFA) and Lorenzo Thompson (UDFA). Let me be perfectly up front - there is no way in hell I would have picked up Jed Wills' 5th year option. Far too many times I have watched him allow defender after defender use him like a turnstile on the way to pulverizing our QB - and then see him with a clueless look on his face like "what just happened?" But the Browns don't share my opinion. I have heard one line of thinking they may be pursuing is "We give him the $14M for this yr and see how it goes. If he continues to improve - we will give him a longer, more lucrative deal. If not, we have our 1st rounder back next year - we can go OT shopping there." Not real wise strategy when trying to protect a $230M investment behind center. But it is what it is. For now, we roll with Wills. Further complicating the tackle picture is RT Jack Conklin - who is great when healthy - but that simply has not been the case in CLE. If he would ever stay healthy look out. Dawand was an act of Andrew at his finest. Long term Pro Bowler from round 4? Absolute theivery. I shudder to think what the plan would be if a tackle goes down. As great as the Mike Hall pick was - I would have gone LT at 54. We'll see.

As much as I loved Ben Sinnott, I really think Theo Johnson had a solid claim as TE2 in this class. His athleticism is unreal, and while he wasn't used a lot at Penn State, he showed he could do everything at a high level. He blocked well, he ran routes well, and he moved well. He's a TE with the 2nd highest RAS ever that can play traditionally inline. Pretty crazy stuff.

2nd worst, allowing Albert Hayensworth to walk out the door in FA, after 2 all pro seasons back to back & going 13-3 was stupid, yes he flopped in Washington & got paid only because they lied to him & changed the defense to a 3-4 & he was pissed because he wanted to play in a defense suited to his playing style because he wanted to be a HOF & he made that clear when he signed.

I'd be surprised if Nix starts week 1. If Nix starts and is bad, the whispers start for Wilson or Stidham to start. Once you switch, you can't go back. If Wilson or Stidham start week 1 and suck, then you can easily justify going to Nix and sticking with him as we then know the alternative already sucks. If Wilson or Stidham play well by some miracle, you can bide time for Nix to learn.
